You know where the big ship (your product) needs to go.
You steer it through the harbor and into port.
Personal facts
4th-generation Tacoman
3rd-generation Husky
My wife, our animals, and I live just south of Mukilteo.
Need an ice-breaker? Mainstream stuff works with me:
Books, movies, music, food & beverage, sports.
Work style
I'm very rarely loud or inflexible.
I drive results through consensus, guidance, and persuasion.
Time permitting, I work hard to get to know my colleagues.
In the right moments* at work, I find real value in G-rated dad jokes. Why?
"A wonderful thing about true laughter is that it
just destroys any kind of system of dividing people."

Awards
MS Gold Star - This is an out-of-band performance bonus given occasionally
when Microsoft employees deserve extra recognition.
On the PubCenter team, I wrote a spec for tooltip development since a designer,
engineer, & I agreed it should be considered for the roadmap. It got built.
Later, a different engineering manager told me he'd seen the spec shared outside the MS Advertising org.
Still later, another manager told me the spec had become foundational to tooltip development at MS.
After it was built, the product org recommended me for the Gold Star.
It didn't get approved at first, since I reported to a sibling org.
My org awarded it after they got wind of the whole thing.
National Merit Scholarship finalist - This goes way back to my youth,
but it's worth remembering, at least for me. While I didn't get the scholarship,
I did get my picture mounted to the wall in the school entrance.
The NMS is given for high SAT scores. I got 1410 out of 1600.
I think the scoring is different now and 1600 is no longer the highest score.
International Baccalaureate (IB) program - this is another moment of youthful achievement.
The IB is different from the Advanced Placement (AP) program.
AP is better known, but adoption of IB has gone way up in the last generation or two.
It's administered out of Switzerland. One high performer in a graduating class ahead of mine
was offered sophomore standing at Princeton.
Princeton based this on his IB coursework.
I can't lay claim to that level of recognition, but it was definitely a demanding program.
